south-dakota129 businesses and organizations in 44 communities have been recognized by the South Dakota Department of Tourism for their outstanding customer service efforts.

The Great Service Star Program is designed to identify and recognize businesses that develop and complete hospitality training programs for their staff, recognize and reward employees for offering great service, and find unique ways to show customer appreciation. Those that meet the criteria are awarded a star symbol from the Department of Tourism for use in marketing their business and visually showing visitors their commitment to “Great Service.”

“The commitment made by South Dakota’s visitor industry to customer service spreads beyond the borders of this state,” said Jim Hagen, Secretary of the South Dakota Department of Tourism. “We have a reputation amongst visitors as a place that continuously offers great service to customers and we’re dedicated to keeping that reputation. The Great Service Star program is one way to do that.”

Hagen said the recipients of the award have continued to provide top notch service to guests and are committed to the success of the visitor industry in South Dakota.

The South Dakota Department of Tourism is comprised of Tourism, the South Dakota Arts Council, and the South Dakota State Historical Society. The Department is led by Secretary James D. Hagen.
