An earthquake measuring 4.3 on the Richter scale struck Caylloma province in Peru’s southern Arequipa region on Thursday afternoon.
Peru’s Geophysical Institute, or IGP, said that the quake occurred at 12:35 local time (17:35 GMT) and had an intensity of II on the Modified Mercalli scale.
The tremor’s epicentre was located at 2 kilometres (4.9 miles) southeast of Caylloma’s Cabanaconde district at a depth of 129 kilometers (80.1 miles).
According to Civil Defence authorities, there have been no reports of damage or injury so far from the quake.
Peru lies in the so-called “Pacific Ring of Fire”, which is the site of 85 per cent of global seismic activity caused by friction between shifting tectonic plates.
