Stansted urges public to have their say on Airport’s future growth

Stansted-Airport-300x140Stansted Airport is reminding local residents, businesses and community groups they have just four more weeks to have their say on its Draft Sustainable Development Plan.

The 10 week consultation runs until November 7 and sets out how the airport will develop to make use of the existing capacity of its single runway.

The plan establishes a framework for responsible and sustainable growth at Stansted, and demonstrates the airport’s ability to grow to handle 40-45 million passengers a year within agreed environmental limits and without the need for additional airport land.

Over the last six weeks the consultation team has toured local towns and villages to talk to as many people as possible to hear the views and ideas of those with an interest in how the airport could grow to make the best use of the existing infrastructure.

Chris Wiggan, Stansted Airport’s Head of Public Affairs and Sustainable Development, said:
“I’d like to thank all the local residents, businesses and community organisations that have already taken the time to share their thoughts and discuss our plans to make effective use of Stansted’s existing single runway.

“Our vision is to grow Stansted to better serve the region, which includes attracting a more varied choice of airlines and destinations, creating 10,000 new jobs and providing businesses from across the region with improved access to new markets and trade opportunities, all within our current air quality and noise limits and without requiring any additional land.

“It’s really important that the public take this opportunity to have their say and help us to shape our draft plan.

I would urge all those with an interest in Stansted’s future to find out more and provide us with comments and feedback either by visiting our purpose-built website or meeting us in person at our last two public roadshows in Stansted Mountfitchet and Dunmow.”
