Will Reunion Island see a new record set by France on Saturday?

No fewer than 128 athletes in total from Africa, the Vanilla Islands, and France will compete on the Marc Nasseau stage. The program will also keep its promises with many disciplines of athletics part of the competition: bass, jump, hurdles, long jump, hammer, javelin, discuss, and weight.

The International Athletics Meeting in the city of Saint-Denis will host a large group of champion athletes, including with Jimmy Vicaut, 2013 European champion of the 60 m indoor; Melina Robert Michon, 13 times champion of the France discus; Cindy Billaud, 4th at the 2014 World Championships in the 60 m hurdles indoors; Leslie Djhone, 4 time champion of the 2011 European indoor 400 m; and Myriam Soumare, 2nd at the 2013 European championships 60 m. This sporting event, with the presence of such athletes on Reunion Island, is an opportunity to offer a great opportunity for exchange and sharing in the field.

Trainings and conferences are also included in the program and will be held at CREPS of Saint-Denis and Saint-Paul.Considered the showcase of athleticism on Reunion Island, the International Athletics Meeting aims to develop its international dimension. A year before the Island Games, this sporting event is positioned as a springboard for Reunion Island athletics “which has just surpassed the 4,500 dismissed,” according to Gilles Hubert, President of the Reunion Athletics League, by bringing leaders, officials, athletes, and coaches together. The event will also spread a positive image of athletics on Reunion Island so that it is recognized as a training ground and home for athletes.
