Casuarina Coastal ReserveThe Northern Territory has some of the world’s most beautiful natural environments and now the public has the opportunity to have their say on the future of our most popular reserve.

Minister for Parks and Wildlife Bess Price said the draft Management Plan for Casuarina Coastal Reserve is now open for public comment.

“Casuarina Coastal Reserve is the most visited park in the Territory, and now you have a chance to have your say on how to make it even better,” Mrs Price said.

“The reserve is a stunning natural asset on the doorsteps of residents, providing locals and visitors with a beach and bushland escape in the heart of suburban Darwin.

“This is the third Management Plan prepared for the reserve and was developed with input from key stakeholders including the Casuarina Coastal Reserve Advisory Committee.

“The plan sets out the direction for the reserve’s future management and outlines how the needs of the community and conservation will be met.”

The key management priorities include:

·         promoting more public involvement in the reserve and working with the community and environmental groups

·         implementing the Experience Development Plan including an Erosion and Drainage plan

·         Working with the public to encourage awareness of the importance of the reserve for migratory birds and marine turtles.

“The plan also includes proposed new changes to the Domestic Animal Regulations,” Mrs Price said.

“These changes will mean the reserve is more user friendly, with a larger section of the beach now dedicated for off-lead dog walking.

“The plan proposes a 900m stretch of on-lead dog walking beach in front of Dripstone Cliffs, proving a space for multi-purpose use such as horse riding, beach sports and water activities.
