“The tourism and shopping festival has contributed to the improvement of the economic and social conditions in the Red Sea state as well as the reflection of Sudan’s tourism potentiality,” said al- Bashir.

Meanwhile, al-Bashir praised the Sudanese-Eritrean ties, saying that “we have worked together since Eritrea was under the colonial rule; together we led the struggle for the liberation of Eritrea and today our efforts have come together to achieve the interests of our peoples.”

“The borders drawn by the colonialists will not be a barrier to prevent communication between our two brotherly peoples,” he added. Afwerki, for his part, commended the idea of the festival.

The tourism and shopping festival, which is organized during mid-November and mid-February each year, constitutes one of the biggest tourism festivals in Sudan as it makes most of the opportunity to inform everyone concerned the cultural heritage of the Red Sea state in eastern Sudan.
