Tasmanian Qantas Contact Centre Take Off

Published on : Wednesday, June 22, 2016

qantasThe official opening of the newly refurbished Qantas Premium Contact Centre today marks another significant milestone in Tasmania’s successful and enduring partnership with Qantas, and has coincided with the welcome news that Qantas will be running additional flying capacity in and out of Tasmania.

It has been just over two years since the Liberal Government secured a commitment from Qantas to consolidate its existing premium Australian contact centres in Hobart.

The Tasmanian Liberal Government support has allowed for the upgrade of the centre, payroll tax relief, and provided relocation assistance for employees moving from interstate.

Without this agreement, it was likely the call centre would have shut.

Not only were we able to secure the jobs of 240 people but the centre has expanded to cater for a wider range of capabilities and now employs around 300 people.

Today’s announcement of additional flying capacity for Tasmania is a welcome one. With additional flights scheduled over the summer festive period between Hobart and the eastern seaboard capitals of Sydney and Brisbane, more visitors will be able to come to our beautiful state.

In addition, larger B717 jet aircraft will be introduced to operate between Launceston and Melbourne, and larger B737 aircraft will operate services between Hobart and Melbourne during December and January.

This is yet another vote of confidence from Qantas in our state and our booming visitor economy.
