Published on : Friday, February 14, 2014

tourism-tasmania-logoThe Minister for Tourism, Scott Bacon, today unveiled the one-year-to-go ‘countdown clock’ for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 at the PW1 precinct.

Mr Bacon said that the clock is ticking and before we know it, we will be welcoming the players, officials and spectators from all over the world to the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015.
Bellerive Oval will host three pool matches in ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 involving Ireland, Zimbabwe, Sri Lanka, Australia and Scotland. Matches will be played during the first half of March 2015.

“This is the first time in 23 years the ICC Cricket World Cup has returned to Australia and New Zealand, and is another great example of world-class sport being played in Tasmania.

“The Tasmanian Government is very proud to support this event,” he said.

Mr Bacon said that the ICC Cricket World Cup will be the largest sporting event in the world in 2015 and will provide great opportunities to showcase Tasmania to generate world-wide viewing audiences.

“The event will also attract many visitors from interstate and overseas.

Mr Bacon said that Tourism Tasmania research clearly shows that around 60 per cent of interstate visitors to events in Tasmania return within a short period.

“This is a family-friendly World Cup and tickets are now on sale to the public and child tickets available to all matches, providing a great opportunity for families to enjoy the event.

“Child tickets to pool matches are just $5 and adult tickets start from $20; so a family of four can go to the Cricket World Cup from just $50,” he said.

The cities of Hobart and Clarence and the Hobart airport will carry extensive promotional banners from 26 January to 16 March 2015.

The ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 commences at the Melbourne Cricket Ground and Hagley Oval, Christchurch, on Saturday, 14 February and ends with the final at the MCG on Sunday 29 March 2015.
