The Royal Thai Embassy together with the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) New Delhi Office co-organized a film familiarisation trip “Thailand-India Cine Connect: Exploring Potentials to Bridge Our Film Industries” on 27 June – 1 July, 2016.
The visiting Indian delegates of this trip have included Indian film makers, content buyers and high-level representative from the National Film Development Corporation of India (NFDC), an Indian agency whose primary goal is to promote efficient development of the Indian film industry, including film financing, production and distribution.
The objective of this project is to connect Thai and Indian people in film businesses together as well as to explore the business opportunities, particularly in the areas of promoting Thailand as a film shooting location, co-production and selling Thai contents, such as, movies and TV series to the Indian market via various outlets, including cinema, cable TV and online media, which has become very popular in India at the present.
In the morning of 27 June, the delegation visited the Thailand Film Office, Department of Tourism, Ministry of Tourism and Sports, for a briefing about potential and readiness of Thailand as a film shooting location and her film production services.
In the afternoon, H.E. Mr. Chalit Manityakul, the Thai Ambassador to India, led the delegation to pay a courtesy call on General Thanasak Patimaprakorn, Deputy Prime Minister and Chairperson of the National Board of Film and Video of Thailand at the Department of Cultural Promotion.
As he welcomed the visiting delegates, General Thanasak stated that he was glad that this project took place as it is a concrete result after his visit to Mumbai on 6 – 9 March, 2016 to study the potential of Indian film industry and how Thailand and India can work closer together in this industry. Thai film industry has a lot of potentials, Indian film industry is also very strong and the size of its market is huge. He wishes to see more cooperation among Thai and Indian film businesses. This cooperation will not only yield economic benefits to both Thailand and India but will also strengthen our people-to-people connection.
Later on the same day, the delegation participated in the business networking at Millennium Hilton Bangkok, where H.E. Mr. Chalit Manityakul, Thai Ambassador to India, and Ms. Walailak Noypayak, TAT’s Executive Director for ASEAN, South Asia and South Pacific Region, graced the session.
The meeting put the visiting delegates to meet with various Thai representatives from the related businesses. Mr. Kulthep Narula, Mr. Sirisak Koshpasharin and Mr. Aditya Assarat joined the session and spoke about the potentials of Thai film industry to the Indian counterparts.
The delegation is scheduled to travel to the South of Thailand to inspect shooting location in Koh Samui, Koh Tao, Koh Nang Yuan and Koh Phangan.
The program is also co-sponsored by Thai Airways Office in New Delhi.
