LondoncityAirportThe future of a community fruit and vegetable market stall in The Moorings, Thamesmead has been secured for the next six months, thanks to a donation from London City Airport.

The airport has given a £5,000 grant to Thamesmead’s local community development agency, Trust Thamesmead to enable it to operate the stall, which opened to make fresh produce accessible and affordable for local residents.

Liam McKay, Head of Public Affairs and Community Relations at London City Airport said:  “The airport is committed to working with the local community to transform East London.  The airport champions local initiatives and organisations that are helping to make a difference and we are proud to support Trust Thamesmead.  The stall promotes healthy eating, which in turn promotes a healthy lifestyle and home environment and I hope many more local residents will be able to benefit from the service as a result of our involvement.”

The stall, which is staffed solely by volunteers, is a partnership project between Trust Thamesmead and Greenwich Community Food Coop and is open every Friday, from 8.00am to 12:30pm outside Arnott Community Centre, Arnott Close, Thamesmead, SE28 8BG.

Lucy Webb from Trust Thamesmead said:  “We are delighted by this contribution from our partners at London City Airport.  The stall plays a very important role in bringing affordable, fresh fruit and vegetables to our residents in an area currently lacking in local services.  The grant will allow us to build a sustainable plan for the stall and for us to link it more closely with our wider health and wellbeing programme.”
