Jet2.com has played its part in the Grand Départ! On Monday, the region’s leading leisure airline flew Le Tour de France Race Director Christian Prudhomme and cycling legend Bernard Hinault from Paris to Leeds Bradford Airport.
Upon touchdown, the pair were greeted by a warm Yorkshire welcome, with the red carpet rolled out especially for the event. The Yorkshire Regiment’s rendition of La Marseillaise, the national anthem of France, was also music to Mr Prudhomme’s ears.
The commemorative Jet2.com aircraft was dressed for the occasion, sporting special Grand Départ 2014 livery along with the Yorkshire Rose. This aircraft was also used to fly the Welcome to Yorkshire and Le Tour de France committee into Leeds Bradford, following the official launch of the Grand Depart back in January 2013.
Steve Heapy, the Chief Executive of Jet2.com, said: “As Yorkshire’s favourite leisure airline, we were delighted to assist in the preparations for bringing the world’s most famous bicycle race to our home region. We are looking forward to the exciting event. Judging by the huge increase in demand for our flights from France, Spain and the Netherlands to Leeds Bradford and Manchester over the Grand Départ weekend, many of our customers are too!”
