Mandarin_Oriental__Hong_Kong-300x212The Tourism Commission and other departments, in co-operation with the travel industry, have drawn up plans to prepare for Mainland visitor arrivals during the National Day Golden Week holiday from October 1 to 7.

The Government will enhance manpower and co-ordinate transport and cross-boundary services. A joint command centre will be activated to monitor the situation at land control points and take contingency action where necessary.

The Tourism Commission has set up a mechanism with its Guangdong and Shenzhen counterparts for exchanging information and handling emergencies.

Travellers are urged to avoid crossing the boundary during the morning and evening peak hours. Mainland visitors should to confirm their accommodation arrangements prior to arrival.

Law enforcement departments will step up inspection of retail shops targeting group tours, while major tourist attractions will extend their opening hours and implement crowd control arrangements.

An advisory note on consumer rights for Mainland group tour visitors has been uploaded to the Tourism Commission and relevant bodies’ websites, and published on the Mainland.

Visitors can call the Tourism Commission (2807 0707), the Tourism Board (2508 1234) or the Consumer Council (2929 2222) for enquiries.
