seychelles-another-world (1)When Shi ZhongJun, the outgoing Chinese Ambassador to Seychelles took office in 2011, his mandate fell in the era of Alain St.Ange, as the island’s Minister for Tourism and Culture. The Culture Department was then in transition to bridge together all branches of Seychelles cultural origins.

In 2013, following the success of Seychelles-India Day Celebrations in October, initiated by Alain St.Ange, Minister for Tourism and Culture, the idea of having a festival for the Chinese Community to tie the fifth knot of the Seychelles cultural origins was presented to Ambassador Shi ZhongJun and the country saw the launch of a Seychelles-China Day Celebrations marking the Chinese Spring Festival in Seychelles.

Bidding farewell to Alain St.Ange, Minister for Tourism and Culture upon completion of his three year mandate, Ambassador Shi ZhongJun said putting together this event was one of his greatest challenges. He recognised that the Seychelles-China Day Celebrations brought the local Chinese community closer together.
“I’ve pushed myself through limits and took pride in helping to stage this festival. A special bond was created within the Chinese community. I foresee in my successor a continuity to take the community spirit to the next level’’ the outgoing Chinese Ambassador said.

Alain St.Ange, the Seychelles Minister for Tourism and Culture, acknowledged witnessing the sense of togetherness in the Chinese community.
“As the outgoing Chinese Ambassador to Seychelles you should take credit in bringing unity and togetherness in the local Chinese Community and Chinese Association Committee.’’

Although he left behind fond memories of his stay in Seychelles, Ambassador Shi ZhongJun believes his successor, Mrs Yin Lixian, will walk in his foot prints and support on-going projects he initiated with the Ministry of Tourism and Culture. Ambassador Shi ZhongJun will leave Seychelles for Beijing where he will be posted in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
