Transavia-flightTourism Ireland warmly welcomes the announcement by Transavia (the low cost airline owned by the Air France-KLM group) of a new, year-round, daily flight from Paris-Orly Airport to Dublin, beginning in June 2015.

This is the first time that Transavia will fly to a northern European destination.

Ireland is not currently served from Orly Airport – so the new service represents an important opportunity for both leisure and business tourism from the all-important French market.

Niall Gibbons, CEO of Tourism Ireland, said: “The announcement by Transavia of a new flight from Paris to Dublin is more good news for Irish tourism and will certainly help boost both leisure and business travel from France to Ireland in 2015.

We look forward to working closely with Transavia to maximise the promotion of the new flight. As an island, the importance of convenient, direct, non-stop flights cannot be overstated – they are absolutely critical to achieving growth in inbound tourism.

Tourism Ireland is committed to working with Transavia, Dublin Airport and other tourism interests, through co-operative marketing, to drive demand for this new service – as we work with other carriers and partners to promote and help maintain vital routes and services to the island.”

Niall Gibbons continued: “2014 looks set to be another record year for tourism from France. Right now, we are planning a busy programme of promotions for 2015, to keep the momentum growing and build on this year’s growth.

We look forward to welcoming many more French visitors in 2015 and beyond.”

Latest estimates indicate that, by the end of 2014, the island of Ireland will have welcomed 445,000 French visitors – representing another record year for this important tourism market.
