Tourism leaders, legislators to meet in Albany

Tourism industry leaders from the Greater Capital Region will meet with local legislative representatives for a Roundtable Discussion on Thursday, January 31, to discuss important issues pertaining to the tourism industry.

The Desmond Hotel & Conference Center (660 Albany Shaker Road, Albany) is hosting the event from 8:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. The purpose of the Roundtable Discussion – sponsored by the New York State Hospitality & Tourism Association, Albany County Convention & Visitors Bureau, Albany Colonie Regional Chamber of Commerce, Saratoga Convention & Tourism Bureau, Saratoga County Chamber of Commerce, Schenectady County Visitors Agency, The Chamber of Schenectady County and Washington County Tourism – is to advance the hospitality industry’s local and statewide legislative agendas.

More than eight state legislators and/or staff have confirmed they will be in attendance for this event. Statewide issues on the agenda include: the importance of tourism funding, Regional Economic Development Council grants, minimum wage and extended learning time for students and its impact on tourism businesses.

Issues specific to the Capital Region will include, among other things: Albany Convention Center project, casino gaming, Amtrak service and destination marketing.
