Tourism Officials Hail Sandals’ Mega Fam

Large-300x182Antigua and Barbuda is receiving heightened exposure as a tourist destination as hundreds of travel agents from the United States flock the twin island state.

The major marketing opportunity forms part of the Sandals Resorts International’s (SRI) Mega Fam 2013, where the agents are hosted by Sandals to experience the all-inclusive resort.

Knowing the potential benefits to be derived from these agents and their clients, several tourism officials to include CEO of the Antigua and Barbuda Tourism Authority (ABTA) Collin James have been welcoming the agents and commend the management of Sandals Grande Antigua Resort and Spa.

According to James, “Travel agents are of great value to the tourism industry as they are considered the travel advisor to their clients, but what is particularly special about the Sandals Mega Fam is having hundreds of these agents personally experiencing the resort’s product which will make it easier for them to sell.”

The tourism authority CEO applauded the management and staff of Sandals Grande Antigua, whom he says “continue to take pride in what they offer and provide quality service to their guests which in return, benefits the country on a whole economically.”

General Manager Courtney Miller explains that, “The feedback from the agents to date has been positive, with most already showing interest in recommending the resort to their clients.”

Asked what makes Sandals Grande Antigua unique, Miller says, “It’s the availability of an option where visitors can choose to stay at our Caribbean Grove or Mediterranean Village, both of which offer quality service and exclusive features.”

During the official start of the Mega Fam earlier this month, Regional Director of Sales David Ropa stated that, “The travel agents will now be better able to sell Antigua and Sandals, having gained a first-hand experience of the resort and the island’s culture.”

A cultural showpiece wows the agents as they are welcomed by a steel orchestra, mas players and an iron band.

They are also given a sample of the Antigua Black Pineapple and Coconut Water. Some travel agents have even joined dancers during a soca piece while others have witnessed a theatrical presentation on Antigua’s history.

This year’s Mega Fam is part of a three-island package which offers agents the opportunity to visit Sandals resorts in Bermuda, Turks and Caicos and Antigua over a period of three days.
