Tourism Tasmania: Spirit Bookings Crack 400,000

Published on : Saturday, June 18, 2016

tourism-tasmania-logoThe Hodgman Liberal Government is committed to increasing passenger numbers on the Spirits of Tasmania as they drive tourism growth, create jobs and boost our economy.

I am very pleased to announce that TT-Line bookings have exceeded the magic 400,000 mark for this financial year, with 407,000 passengers already delivered across Bass Strait with another few weeks to improve.

We know that passengers on the Spirits stay longer and spend more in Tasmania than those who come by other means, with TT-Line estimating that the average tourist on the Spirits spends $2700 while in the State.

That’s 32,000 more than were carried at the same date last year, which was in turn a big increase on the year before and an even larger increase from the final years of the former Labor-Green Government.

Passenger numbers are up more than 23 per cent compared to 2012-13, which was the last full financial year of the former Government, with time to improve even further as the financial year comes to a close.

With forward bookings for 2016/17 already at 6.2 per cent, the momentum shows no sign of slowing down.

More people than ever are coming to visit Tasmania thanks to the strong policies of this majority Liberal Government, and it’s about time the Opposition, which has opposed our plan from the start and were actively hoping it would fail, acknowledged this and accepted they were wrong.
