Tourist arrivals to Brazil for Carnival this year to exceed last years mark, reports Touirsm Ministry

According to a report by the Department of Studies and Research of the Brazil Ministry of Tourism, the carnival in the country is expected to generate approximately 6.2 million tourists and financial transactions amounting to R $ 5.7 billion nationwide.

The carnival begins on February 9 and will extend up to the Ash on February 13.

“Carnival is one of the busiest times in Brazil attracting foreign tourists in the country,” says the director of Department of Studies and Research of the Brazil Ministry of Tourism, José Francisco Lopes. It is estimated that the popular festival represents a 2.5% to 5% of the revenues of companies.

The most popular destinations for tourists are Rio de Janeiro, Salvador and Recife, cities with strong party traditions. Last year, tourist arrivals during the period reached six million and financial transactions in the cities receiving tourists to £ 5.5 billion.
