Traffic report for November 2013 – More passengers at Schonefeld and Tegel / Passenger record at Tegel

Flughafen-berlin-brandIn November a total of 2,045,291 passengers used Schonefeld and Tegel airports (+2.6 per cent). At Schonefeld Airport, 499,223 passengers were recorded last month. That is 0.9 per cent more than in the same period the previous year. At Tegel, 1,546,068 passengers were recorded in November, 3.1 per cent more than in November 2012.

The total number of flight movements in November amounted to 19,825 take-offs and landings, which represents an increase of 0.1 per cent compared to the same period the previous year. The amount of air freight carried in November increased by 30.9 per cent to 3,276 tonnes.

Development from January to November

From January to November 2013, 24,384,957 passengers took off and landed at Berlin’s Schonefeld and Tegel airports. This represents a growth of 3.9 per cent compared to the same period the previous year. During the first eleven months of the year, 6,206,735 passengers were recorded at Schonefeld ( 6.0 per cent) and 18,178,222 passengers at Tegel (+7.7 per cent).

Hartmut Mehdorn, CEO of Flughafen Berlin Brandenburg GmbH: “On 30 November at Tegel Airport, we already exceeded the passenger numbers for the whole of 2012. But not only is Tegel experiencing growth in its passenger volume, Schonefeld also made gains again for the first time in November. The fact that Tegel is bearing the main load of passenger volume and that we are working to the limits of capacity there is no secret. Our thanks go everyone doing such a great job every day not only at Tegel but also at Schonefeld. We kindly ask our passengers for their continued understanding that inconveniences or waiting times may occur at Tegel during peak times as a result of the high traffic load.”

More passengers, fewer flight movements

The number of flight movements in the January to November period fell to a total of 222,255 take-offs and landings, which represents a decrease of 1.6 per cent compared to the same period the previous year. At Schonefeld, the number of flight movements fell to 60,311 compared to the previous year. This corresponds to a decrease of 9.8 per cent. At Tegel there was a slight increase of 1.8 per cent compared to the previous year. A total of 161,944 flight movements were recorded at Tegel from January to November.

Air freight at Schonefeld and Tegel airports during the period of January to November 2013 amounted to 32,102 tonnes, which represents an increase of 7.7 per cent compared to the same period the previous year.
