TTF – Brisbane’s Cultural Precinct – Visitor Drawcard

ttf (1)The draft master plan for Brisbane’s Cultural Precinct sets out a bold vision that will position the area as a key part of Queensland’s visitor economy, according to peak national industry body Tourism & Transport Forum (TTF).

TTF Chief Executive Ken Morrison said TTF has long advocated for the Brisbane Cultural Precinct and welcomed the draft blueprint’s focus on attracting private investment to help the precinct reach its full potential.

“Brisbane’s Cultural Precinct is an important driver of visitation for Queensland,” said Mr Morrison.

“Institutions like the Queensland Performing Arts Centre (QPAC) are delivering world-class cultural and arts experiences and audiences are responding, with more than a million visitors each year coming through QPAC alone.

“TTF has long advocated for the expansion and ongoing funding of the institutions within the cultural precinct.

“Expanded facilities within the precinct, including revitalised public spaces, would deliver an active and vibrant area that will be a major drawcard not only for Queenslanders but also visitors from overseas and interstate.

“Cultural tourism is an important part of the visitor economy, with visitors in this segment spending more than the average visitor.

“Attracting more of these high-yielding visitors will not only help Queensland to achieve its 2020 goal of doubling overnight expenditure but will also reinforce Brisbane’s reputation as Australia’s new world city.

“This draft master plan also has a focus on attracting private investment, which will be an
important step in helping the precinct to grow.

“Industry welcomes the government’s focus on building strong precincts that will attract visitors to the state, and combined with the proposed redevelopment of Queen’s Wharf, a revitalised and expanded Cultural Precinct will help to give Brisbane and Queensland acompetitive edge.”
