IMG_1331-3-300x200Delta is growing its portfolio of college and university partners with the addition of the University of North Carolina and NC State University.

“The Triangle is a key market for Delta, and our efforts to engage our new college and university partners here will support the airline’s overall goal to become the global carrier of choice for the region,” said Jake Abel, General Manager – University Marketing. “We’ve hit the ground running and are looking forward to developing these relationships in the months and years to come.”

An existing partnership with Duke University rounds out Delta’s roster in Raleigh-Durham.

The new partnerships kicked off earlier this month with an appearance by the university mascots at Raleigh-Durham International Airport. Delta also helped NC State students move into on-campus housing, offering refreshments and care packages. Additional events are planned throughout the fall, when Delta will be visible at campus bookstores, basketball games, alumni events, and more, with opportunities for students to sign up for SkyMiles memberships and win prizes.

“We are very pleased to collaborate with Delta Air Lines,” said Benny Suggs, Executive Director of the NC State Alumni Association. “Like our alumni association, Delta is dedicated to providing real value, as well as exceptional service, to all those it serves.”

“We are excited to partner with Delta as the official airline of Carolina Athletics,” said Rick Steinbacher, Senior Associate Athletic Director at UNC. “Delta is an important part of the entire Research Triangle community, and their support will help our students strive for excellence in the classroom, in the community and in competition.”

Last year, in an effort to become a lifelong travel partner to future customers, Delta signed exclusive agreements with universities across the country, engaging college students and communities at unique campus events, resulting in the acquisition of nearly 40,000 new SkyMiles members.

By moving past traditional signage and advertising and working closely with universities to create valuable and impactful programs, Delta has connected with students, alumni, fans and staff around the country in relevant and resonant ways over the past year, giving these audiences new opportunities to really get to know the airline.

Delta, which is the largest airline at RDU with more than 60 daily departures to 21 destinations, launched new service to Paris, Salt Lake City, Newark, N.J., and Washington, D.C., earlier this year and will add new service to Seattle in 2017. Delta has grown its Raleigh-Durham seat capacity by 69 percent since 2010.

Later this summer, Delta, in its effort to continue investing in the airport and community, will begin renovations of its Delta Sky Club to almost double its seating capacity and floor space, as well as construct its first KaBOOM! playground in October.

Delta’s other university partners include University of Florida, University of Georgia, Georgia Institute of Technology, Indiana University, University of Michigan, Michigan State University, University of Notre Dame, The Ohio State University, Penn State University and University of Wisconsin.
