The 31st Southeast Asian (SEA) Games will be held in Hanoi in 2021, reports Vietnam News Agency (VNA). The international sporting event will help boost Vietnam’s tourism sector.
“Hanoi hosted the 22nd Games in 2003 and the Asian Indoor Games in 2009. The city meets all demands for the 2021 SEA Games,”
Vuong Bich Thang, head of the National Sports Administration said.
The total expenses for the Games are expected to be more than 1.7 trillion VND (US$76 million).
The host city does not have to build new facilities, but needs to upgrade the available ones for the biennial competition.
The 29th SEA Games will be held in Malaysia next year, while the host of the 30th Games has not yet been named as the Philippines and Brunei are the two candidates.
