Today, Virginia Tourism Corporation (VTC) president and CEO Rita McClenny announced that Esra Onat Calvert has been named research director for VTC. Calvert previously served as VTC’s tourism development manager, working on projects involving research, economic analysis, and DRIVE Tourism, the statewide tourism plan for Virginia. Calvert has served as the interim research director since August 2013.
“Esra is a great collaborator and a devoted team player,” said McClenny. “She has loyally served the Commonwealth over the past two years, and will continue to be a tremendous asset to Virginia Tourism Corporation and the state of Virginia as the economic impact of tourism continues to grow and thrive. Esra’s dedication to promoting Virginia is for Lovers is helping us further advance our already successful brand of nearly 45 years, making it stronger and helping to attract more visitors to our great Commonwealth.”
Calvert will be leading VTC’s Research, which is comprised of a wide range of tourism-related data analysis and gathering, including the economic impact of tourism on the state and localities, visitor profiles, market share, consumer trends, and VTC’s advertising and marketing campaigns. The goal of the research team is to provide detailed and timely information for those in the Commonwealth and beyond who are interested in the travel and tourism industry.
Calvert, a native of Turkey, has degrees from the University of North Alabama and Radford University, and is a doctoral candidate in the Hospitality and Tourism Program at the Pamplin School of Business at Virginia Tech.
