However, in order to avail this opportunity, the cruise ship travellers should belong to tourist groups that are organized by travel agencies who are legally registered in China, according to the Shanghai General Station of Immigration Inspection.

The travel agencies would have to submit the list of the names of foreign travellers to the inspection authorities at least 24 hours prior to the arrival of the cruise ships.

Expats from the cruise ships are permitted to stay in Shanghai or travel to Beijing and also the coastal provinces where the cruise ships take shelter. The industry of cruises have been developing in Shanghai. Last year, over 1.6 million cruise ship passengers have entered China through the ports of Shanghai, that marks a 35.5% rise from 2014. But, out of these, only 69,000 tourists were foreigners.

Now, the brand new visa policy might motivate an increasing number of cruise companies to lure more passengers to China thereby offering China tourist groups more chances of travelling and attracting more expats to go for cruise ships to Shanghai.
