visit-savannah-300x141The International Association of Emergency Managers (IAEM) will hold its annual convention in Savannah, Ga., three times over the next seven years, filling nearly 11,000 hotel room nights and generating more than $3 million in visitor spending over the course of the three conventions.

“The Savannah hospitality and tourism community is extremely grateful to have the opportunity to host IAEM’s annual convention in 2016, 2019 and 2022.

It certainly took a collective effort to ensure that our package matched the needs and requirements of the association and its members, and I’m extremely confident that its meetings in Savannah will be the best ever,” said Joseph Marinelli, Visit Savannah president.

IAEM-USA is a non-profit professional organization representing more than 5,500 emergency management and homeland security professionals for local communities, state and federal disaster officials, private sector, non-governmental organizations and others involved in preparing for, responding to, and recovering from all types of disasters including acts of terrorism. It is the nation’s largest emergency management professional association.

“IAEM is excited that Savannah has been selected to host our annual conference and EMEX exhibit.

The size and makeup of our event fits perfectly into the Savannah International Trade and Convention Center and conveniently-located nearby hotels,” said Elizabeth Armstrong, CAE, IAEM-USA executive director.

“The city’s charm, beauty and history as well as great food, shopping and nightlife were all factors in our final decision to bring emergency management professionals from all over the world to Savannah for the annual premier event in our industry.”

“Savannah Mayor Edna Branch Jackson and Chatham County emergency management director, Clayton Scott, played important roles in helping us lure this convention to town,” said Marinelli.

“Both were extremely involved in the closing process and worked to ensure that the IAEM site selection committee was confident and comfortable in choosing our destination for their meeting.”
