visit-savannah-300x141Starting this month, Visit Savannah and the City of Savannah will collaborate on adding a visitor center presence in Ellis Square.

“Our visitor centers provide a very important service to the millions of visitors that come to Savannah each year.

Adding the new location at Ellis Square gives Visit Savannah and its Chamber members a high-visibility location in the heart of the city’s primary tourist district, and we believe it will become a key distribution point for our Official Visitors’ Guides and maps,” said Joseph Marinelli, Visit Savannah president.

Visit Savannah will have a “first impression specialist” in the City of Savannah-owned glass building at the northeast corner of Ellis Square who will serve visitors information about Savannah Thursday through Sunday, from July through December.

“The City of Savannah is pleased that Visit Savannah will have its staff specialists available at the Ellis Square location during the peak tourist times of the week.

This effort will not only enhance the visitor experience, but it will also build on an established partnership we have with Visit Savannah, which currently provides similar services to visitors and residents at the River Street and Tricentennial Park visitor centers,” said Bridget Lidy with the City of Savannah.

Visit Savannah continues its ongoing efforts to upgrade its managed visitor centers around the city.

“We completely redesigned the River Street location about five years ago. Since then, we’ve substantially upgraded the experience on Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard by adding video screens, interactive iPads for making hotel and restaurant reservations and our Tourist Assistance Portals. Next, we will be working with GDOT and the GDEcD in designing a brand new Welcome Center on I-95 in Pooler,” said Marinelli.
