Flight conditions are still unsafe at Bali warned Volcanic Ash Advisory Centre in Darwin. Virgin Australia and Jetstar airlines have cancelled all flights to and from Bali due to unsafe conditions.
Conditions have deteriorated following further eruptions from the Mt Raung and Virgin issued a statement saying that the meteorologists from the centre and the airline feel that flight condition is not favourable.
Passengers will be advised about the flight details through SMS, email or they could contact the customer service.
The airline is monitoring the condition and has advised all passengers to contact the company.
“Virgin Australia has offered to waive all fare differences for guests who are booked to travel to Denpasar by July 28 and wish to switch their travel to one of 12 other island and coastal holiday destinations.”
Passengers whose flights are cancelled as a result of the volcanic activity can change their booking to another date or destination within 30 days without fee, or get a full travel credit.
Jetstar will make a decision on evening flights on Wednesday afternoon and will update customers soon afterwards.
“We regret the frustration any delays or cancellation will cause, but the safety of our customers and crew is always our first priority,” it stated on its website.
Customers should not travel to the airport for flights to and from Bali and should monitor their flight status on the website.
Customers with valid bookings to or from Bali until July 31 can move to an alternative date, travel to an alternative destination within 28 days of their original travel date, or get a refund in travel vouchers.
Garuda Indonesia and Air Asia have yet to make any announcements.
Flights have been interrupted numerous times during July as Mt Raung has continued to erupt, stranding thousands of travellers in Bali.
The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade’s Smart Traveller website warned travellers they were responsible for meeting the conditions of their visa.
“If you have concerns about overstaying you should consult the Indonesian immigration authorities,” it said.
“Travellers to Indonesia should be aware that domestic and international flights to other destinations in the country may also be affected at short notice.”
It said some insurers provided compensation, but others did not, and Australians affected by the situation in Bali should contact their providers to discuss coverage.
“Travellers with insurance policies purchased after Mount Raung began to erupt may not be covered for additional expenses,” it said.
Passengers should check their flight’s website for correct updates.
