The Waves Vienna festival has a packed concert programme in store with just about every genre imaginable accounted for, from international acts and newcomers to alternative bands and singer-songwriters.
Highlights of this year’s line-up include UK electronic producer Gold Panda, Jimi Tenor from Finland, John Grvy from Spain, Vimes from Germany, Satellites from Romania and Rival Kings from Switzerland. The Austrian music scene is also out in force with numerous bands represented, including alternative country outfit A Life A Song A Cigarette, Milk+, Buenoventura and Avec. Germany and Israel are this year’s guest countries.
Venues in the ninth district are set to steal the show in 2016. In addition to Clash with its living-room charm, and Palme – a dance floor tucked away beneath traditional Viennese coffeehouse Weimar – other hosts of the numerous live shows include WUK, a former locomotive factory. The exhibition spaces on the first floor and the WUK project space will be used for the Waves Vienna Music Conference. Part of the festival, the conference features lectures, panel discussions and workshops. This year’s programme is inspired by the theme “Collaborate.
