The World Cup city of Natal was flooded by non-stop rains causing worry over the U.S.V/S Ghana match to be held today 16.06.14. Rains began early Friday and abated only on Sunday, dumping in 50 hours as much rain as is usually seen in the northeastern Brazilian city during the entire month of June. No death or injury was reported. People fear that the match between US-Ghana may be disrupted. There are forecast for nonstop rain for another five days. Natal’s City Hall declared a flood alert on Saturday and evacuated dozens of residents as a precaution in the Mae Luiza neighborhood in the city’s west. People are wading through knee deep water according to news footage and the city is full of huge crater cutting across a street in the residential areas and cars are submerged in water. Brazil’s weak infrastructure may get severely damaged by rains, garbage filled drainage pipes sometimes result in landslides in the city. Steep hill sides that flock the poor population of Brazil will be worst hit. Southern Brazilian regions of Parana and Mato Grosso do Sul have been hit by floods.
