World’s First Mo Train Coming To A Station Near You

Published on : Sunday, November 10, 2013

3_-_insertNorthern Rail, has introduced the world’s first ‘Mo Trains’ today at Manchester Piccadilly station. The UK’s largest rail operator is pledging its support to men’s health charity, Movember by featuring uniquely designed moustaches on the front of 50 of its trains!

The Mo Trains will run right across Northern’s network, from Nottingham and Stoke on Trent, up to Carlisle and Northumberland, raising awareness of men’s health along the way.

The specially produced moustaches, or mos as they are known, will be spotted all around the network, which Managing Director, Alex Hynes, explains is exactly the aim; “We are in a unique position at Northern, with almost 5,000 employees and serving a population of 15 million people, we can really help spread the word about the seriousness of men’s health up North.

“Our customers will see posters at stations and on all of our trains. Our Mo Trains will be out and about throughout November, mirroring the Movember challenge – to grow and maintain a moustache and wear the ribbon for men’s health with pride.”

“Movember supports causes such as fighting prostate and testicular cancers, as well as education on mental health and everyday wellbeing and we are proud to work with them this year.”

Northern has launched a high profile employee campaign to ensure they take care of themselves and others – encouraging them to sign up to Movember as ‘Mo Bros’ and ‘Mo Sistas’.

Tim Robinson, who works at Manchester Victoria station, comments; “When I saw the leaflet from Northern to say we were supporting Movember, I immediately thought of my railway colleague, Mick, who sadly passed away from prostate cancer in April this year. Unfortunately, my Uncle is battling the same cancer right now, so I signed up straight away and am delighted to think I can do something to help others in their situation and to raise awareness of illnesses such as these.”

Ade Rushworth, a driver from Leeds, comments; “When I saw the leaflet from Northern to say we were supporting Movember, I immediately thought of my friend Andy and signed up. Andy was diagnosed with testicular cancer, luckily early enough that it could be treated and he is now fighting fitter than ever. I think this is a perfect opportunity to raise awareness of our health issues and get people talking about.”

Jon Sim, Movember Community Manager commented: “Northern Rail is a shining example of the passionate, highly engaged communities across the UK that make Movember a special campaign. The moustachioed trains look incredible, and everyone, from the boardroom to the train driver and all in between, have been doing some amazing things to raise funds, spread the word and increase awareness about men’s health issues. We are proud to have them as a part of our community network and look forward to the rest of the month – we know they have a lot more planned, so we are excited!’

With employees across the business taking part, from train maintenance crews in the depots behind the scenes to our frontline teams, there will be a hairy feel about Northern until 30 November!
