Ibaraki in Japan hit by 5.5 magnitude earthquake

9c8f6dc2-5701-4948-aa56-85e8e900533eMediumRes1-300x198A 5.5-magnitude quake hit Ibaraki prefecture in Japan at 7:38 local time Sunday, according Japan’s Meteorological Agency.

The quake was registered lower 5 at Japan’s seismic intensity scale of 7, with strong tremor felt in Kanto area, including Tokyo.

The epicenter, which was about 50 km northeast of Tokyo, was initially detected at 36.0 degree of north latitude and 140.1 degree of east longitude, with depth of 70 km.

No tsunami alerts were issued and no immediate injuries and damage were reported.
