“TimCam” Lets UBCO Students Keep an Eye on Tim Hortons Lineup

Kelowna-TourismBetween lectures, assignments, research and exams, among many other things, students at Kelowna’s UBCO are often rushing around campus from one place to the next. A common stop between destinations is the on-campus Tim Hortons. A place that allows students to refuel before, after, and sometimes during, lectures. However, the Tim Hortons is extremely popular with the student body meaning that lineup length can vary from one visit to the next.

Deciding to nip for a quick coffee just got a whole lot easier thanks to the installation of a new webcam, the “TimCam.” The TimCam, which was installed by UBCO’s Information Technology department, allows students, and faculty, to check a live feed on the university’s website so they can see the length of the Tim Hortons line-up. The cam is accessible via smartphone too, meaning that Tim Hortons enthusiasts can check the feed while on the go.

Don Thompson, director of UBCO’s IT department, told CTV, “Time is really critical to students, not just between classes but they’re trying to get their studying before exams.” He also explained the reasoning behind the TimCam to CTV explaining, “This is really about helping the students maximize their time on campus.”.
