On Tuesday December 3rd at 6:00 p.m., two young patients from Children’s Hospital will experience the thrill of “flipping the switch” on thousands of glittering lights that will illuminate the hotel’s famous wrought-iron balconies. Don’t miss all of the excitement at one of the city’s most popular holiday events staged just outside the hotel’s main entrance at 300 Bourbon Street. The celebration offers live entertainment and numerous surprise elements designed to ignite the spirit of the season.

Serving as celebrity master of ceremonies this year is Jennifer Hale, an award-winning sports journalist who covers the NFL and NBA for Fox Sports and is a local anchor for WVUE Fox 8 in New Orleans. Hale will present an impressive program with a special appearance by Thomas Morstead, #6 of the New Orleans Saints. As always, the New Orleans Saintsations, the Saints official cheerleading team, will join us. New Orleans Saints mascots Gumbo and Sir Saint will also be there. Santa will take time out for a special appearance and his beloved ‘huggable’ helper, the Royal Teddy Bear, will also attend to help everyone catch the holiday spirit!

New Orleans-based OperaCréole will headline the evening’s entertainment with a special holiday concert. This premier vocal ensemble will lend their voices to a stunning multi-cultural program that will feature tunes sung in Créole, a festive Haitian piece, a collection of upbeat Spirituals, and a mix of lively traditional Christmas carols. For the grand finale, OperaCréole will perform the “Hallelujah Chorus” from Handel’s Messiah just as the two patients from Children’s light the hotel’s balconies. The hospital’s Chaplain Allen Mitchell will deliver the invocation for this magical night of joyful celebration.

Royal Sonesta President and General Manager Alfred L. Groos explained, “We are honored to welcome for the first time members of OperaCréole who will add elegance to our program. This event is offered as a living expression of goodwill towards the community we share, and it is in that spirit that we are proud to acknowledge and support the important work of Children’s Hospital.”

This heartwarming community event is free and open to the public and all are welcome to attend!
