The iconic church of Liverpool more commonly known to the locals as the bombed-out church is set to light up the city with its “Carols at Twilight”. This will be a public event where choir performers will sing Christmas carols on Sunday, December 8th at 4 PM. All residents are welcome to attend and visitors can be a part of the performance free of charge. The event will be organized by the local church of the city centre, Christ Church Liverpool.
St Luke’s Church, built between 1811 and 1832 was nearly destroyed during the World War II blitz. Called the bombed-out church, the roofless shell remains as a memorial to those lost in war as well as one of the city’s greatest historic landmarks. It is now used as an arts venue and run by Urban Strawberry Lunch.
The organizers are thrilled to put together the event id this historical venue. The choir, directed by Maurice McCracken will perform a feast of festive favourites, including O Come All Ye Faithful and Hark the Herald Angels in this atmospheric setting with opportunities for the audience to join the choir in many well-loved carols. Adding to the Christmas spirit, minced pies and hot drinks will be served.
Choir director McCracken said that he hoped to spread cheer through the city and extend joy to the people of Liverpool. Voluntary donations will be raised during the event for the Liverpool Food bank, a local charity bringing emergency food for local people in crisis.
