Nico Ferraro Elected to Lead San Diego Convention Center Corporation Board of Directors

Nico_Ferraro_SDCCCThe San Diego Convention Center Corporation announced today that Nico Ferraro will serve as chair of the San Diego Convention Center Corporation’s board of directors beginning January 2014. Ferraro worked in the pipe trades industry assuming numerous leadership roles in his 40-year career and served most recently as the vice-chair of the Corporation’s board. During his career, he became known for his teamwork philosophy and his ability to get things done. His political career with the Plumbers and Pipefitters Union spanned 19 years, where he represented the diverse divisions of the union until retiring in 2008. Governor Gray Davis appointed him to the Industrial Welfare Commission Wage Board and he was also honored by the San Diego Building Trades as the “John Lyons Labor Leader of the Year 2000” and the San Diego and Imperial Counties Labor Council as “Labor Leader of the Year 2007.”

Stephen P. Cushman was elected the board’s vice chair. A fourth generation San Diegan, Mr. Cushman is an experienced businessman and committed civic leader. Throughout his career, he has been actively involved with numerous boards and commissions. He established The Cush Automotive Group and was a recognized leader in the automotive sales industry before its sale in 2006. He was recently named Mr. San Diego, 2013 by the San Diego Rotary Club for his dedication to the betterment of San Diego. In 2001, he received recognition from the San Diego Convention and Visitor’s Bureau for Extraordinary Leadership and Support of the Tourism Industry in San Diego. In addition to being an adjunct professor at San Diego State University, he is the Chairman of the Business School Board of Directors SDSU and an active board member for the San Diego Foundation, San Diego Sports Commission and National University.

Rabbi Laurie Coskey was elected to serve as the board’s secretary treasurer. Coskey is the executive director of the Interfaith Committee for Worker Justice (ICWJ), an organization representing clergy, churches, mosques, synagogues, faith and justice organizations in San Diego. As a community and civil justice advocate, Coskey is chairperson of both the San Diego Community College District Trustee Advisory Board and the Clergy and Laity United for Economic Justice-California. She also serves as a member of Interfaith Worker Justice’s board of directors. The Center for American Progress recognized her as one of the 13 Progressive Faith Leaders to Watch in 2013. An expert in multi faith relationships, she is Rabbi in Residence at St. Paul’s Episcopal Cathedral.
