The employees felt that they wouldn’t look as attractive in the uniform as Karr as the uniform is really tight and is impractical for the physical job that the staff has to do.
The uniforms, designed by Australian designer Martin Grant, consist of a form-fitting navy, pink and red pencil dress and black trench coat for women – but a number of Qantas’s flight attendants are lamenting the loss of their old, more comfortable uniform.
Hosties range in age from their 20′s to their 60′s and a lot of the older ones don’t want to wear tight-fitting uniforms. We like the current Peter Morrissey-designed uniforms said one of the staffs as they are very comfortable.
The concerned union members have contacted the Flight Attendants Association of Australia National Division and have asked the airline to “tweak” the design.
However Qantas maintain that feedback for the new uniforms has been “overwhelmingly positive”, pointing out that it was trialled by 75 crew members to ensure it was suitable before being unveiled.
A Qantas spokesperson said that there are bound to be some adjustments needed when the multiple pieces are rolled out to 12,000 people, but it’s been going very smoothly and there’s a lot of excitement. Kerr and John Travolta are the global ambassador for the airline.
