Thai Airways International Public Company Limited (THAI) announced the launch of direct roundtrip flights from Bangkok to Sendai, Japan, operated with Airbus A330-300 aircraft. THAI will begin flights toSendai on 3 December 2013.
Mr. Chokchai Panyayong, THAI Senior Executive Vice President, Commercial Department, said that the Japanese market is a substantial market with continuous, regular growth. According to the Tourism Authority of Thailand, more than 400,000 Japanese tourists traveled to Thailand in the first
quarter of this year, which is the second largest number of tourist arrivals from the Asian region or an increase of 22 percent. The Thai-Japanese tourism market has a growth rate of 18.5 percent and during the first nine months of this year,THAI’s cabin factor on routes to Japan was 79.8 percent and THAI’s growth rate on these routes was as high as 23.7 percent. The Japanese market is a major revenuemaking market for THAI, which is reason for THAI to expand to serve new destinations in Japan such as Sendai, the capital of Miyagi Prefecture in Japan. THAI is pleased to serve Sendai and fly to all regions in Japan, as well as support increasing demand for travel to more parts of Japan. Sendai is THAI’s seventh destination in Japan.
THAI will operate roundtrip flights from Bangkok-Sendai at three flights per week on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays, operated with Airbus A330-300 aircraft, equipped with 299 passenger seats: 26 Royal Silk Class seats and 263 Economy Class seats, with the first flight departing on 3 December 2013, as follows:

Currently, THAI flies to six cities or seven airports and operates the most flights from Bangkok to
Japan, details as follows:
– Roundtrip flights to Bangkok-Narita (Tokyo) at 21 flights per week
– Roundtrip flights to Bangkok-Haneda (Tokyo) at 7 flights per week
– Roundtrip flights to Bangkok-Nagoya at 14 flights per week
– Roundtrip flights to Bangkok-Osaka at 17 flights per week
– Roundtrip flights to Bangkok-Fukuoka at 7 flights per week
– Roundtrip flights to Bangkok-Sapporo at 7 flights per week
– Roundtrip flights to Bangkok-Sendai at 3 flights per week (effective 3 December 2013)
THAI is offering tickets to Sendai at a special price to introduce its new destination during the period 3 December 2013 to 15 January 2014 for roundtrip travel on the route Bangkok-Sendai in Economy Class, with prices starting at 19,800 baht, including taxes and surcharges, whereby conditions may apply (taxes and surcharges vary depending on the foreign exchange rate on the date of ticket issuance), which may change without advance notice. The ticket has a validity date of 14 days. Sendai is in the northeast of Honshu Island, is the capital of Miyagi Prefecture, and is situated 350 kilometers north of Tokyo. Sendai is one of seven largest cities in Japan, located on the largest island in Japan, and is known as a core city that leads the economy and culture of the Tohoku region that is in the northeastern part of Japan. It is known as the “City of Trees”. In the summer, the Sendai Tanabata Festival is held. In the winter month of December, the Sendai Pageant of Starlight is held whereby trees are decorated with lights. Sendai is located along the same latitude as Washington, DC, United States of America. When compared to other cities in Japan, Sendai has moderate, humid subtropical climate at an average of 12.1 °C. The seasonal climate in Sendai is pleasant and enjoyable, especially the falling leaves in the autumn and snowfall views in the winter. Sendai is reknown for its beautiful nature sites, such as Matsushima that has one of three of the best sightseeing views in Japan. In Matsushima, one can take a cruise around Matsushima Bay and feed the seagulls. For a view of Sendai, there is the Sendai Castle Site or Aoba Castle for a panoramic view of the city. As well, there is a statue of Date Masamune riding on a horse, who built the caste 400 years ago.
