Seychelles-CarnivalThe Seychelles 2014 edition of the Carnaval International de Victoria media campaign is gathering momentum now that the islands have only some 50 plus days only before the official opening of that unique event that is this year being staged by Seychelles, La Reunion, Madagascar, Mayotte and South Africa KwaZulu Natal. Pure FM, the Seychelles first private radio station took the lead in breaking the news of Seychelles Carnaval International de Victoria countdown launching.

Only hours before the official launching of the countdown, Alain St.Ange, the Minister for Tourism and Culture was invited in the show ‘ Accent du Jour’’ with host Patsy Athanase in a half a hour live studio interview to talk about the Carnival. Minister St.Ange’s presence in Pure FM studio contributed to spark the carnival party mood in Seychelles.

“Seychelles Carnival is coming as a freight train. Today we are happy to announce that Seychelles is ready for the 2014 edition of the carnival’’ Alain St.Ange said.

Responding to Patsy’s question on what Seychelles gained from the Carnival, Minister St.Ange highlighted that Seychelles has taken the lead with this event in the community of nations.

“Seychelles continues to host this event because we firmly believe that it is working. Carnaval International de Victoria prides itself as the only national event in Seychelles, that is able to bring over about half of its population to the heart of Victoria.

The Carnaval International de Victoria can proudly proclaimed as being the only event in Seychelles bringing for its three day manifestation, the largest world media bank to the islands . We’ve made it with flying colours for the past editions, and we will keep on making this event, the biggest and most populous ever hosted in Seychelles’’ Minister St.Ange said.

“The Seychelles Carnaval International de Victoria keeps bringing the biggest and all the most popular international carnival delegations to Seychelles”, pointed out Patsy to Minister St.Ange. She highlighted the importance of such an event, within the concept of the Indian Ocean Vanilla Islands and questioned on which direction this event is heading in this concept. Minister St.Ange re-assured the Pure FM Radio listeners that the Carnaval International de Victoria is firmly rooted as the key event on the Vanilla Islands calendar of events The Minister also spoke of the Mauritius stance in this manifestation.

“Mauritius was present in last year’s edition. This year Seychelles Tourism Board and the Ministry of Tourism and Culture has send an invitation to Mauritius inviting them to showcase their culture and in so doing the People of Mauritius in this coming Carnival.

We’re still waiting for a confirmation from Mauritius. I would like to give my assurance to the people of Seychelles, that Mauritius will make its presence count in this edition. As we wait for the Mauritius Promotional Tourism office (MPTA) and the Mauritius Ministry of Culture to confirm their official participation, we can already confirm that Press from Mauritius in large numbers will be in Seychelles to cover the event and that there will be a delegation from Mauritius for this Vanilla Islands event. We will continue our dialogue to get the official Mauritius delegation on this Vanilla Islands wagon. My mandate as President of Vanilla Islands is to position this concept on the world map ’’

Mayotte, Madagascar and La Reunion are three members of Vanilla Islands grouping who have already confirmed their participations in the 2014 edition of the Carnaval International de Victoria. They will be joined by Brazil, China, Dusseldorf, South Africa KwaZulu Natal, Mozambique, Notting Hill of the UK, South Africa Cape Town, Trinidad and Tobago, USA of America, Italy, Indonesia, Zambia and Zimbabwe to name but a few countries coming to showcase their culture and put their people in the forefront. The Seychelles Tourism Board is awaiting final confirmation of more countries. Minister St.Ange said that Seychelles is happy with the list of confirmed countries and will announce new countries confirming in daily press releases.

“We’re in for many more surprises. New countries from the community of nations will confirm their participation. This edition will be bigger and evenmore spectacular.’’
For the past editions of Carnaval International de Victoria, the official opening took place in the heart of Victoria, with the city centre clock tower as the back drop.

Minister St.Ange said that the Seychelles Tourism Board and the Ministry of Tourism and Culture have listened to the public feedback on the official opening and for this edition, negotiations are under way to shift the ceremony in a new location. He also explained new elements incorporated in the carnival three day of event.

“We’re still studying the proposal to shift the official opening in Stad popiler in the heart of Victoria. The official opening will culminate into a night street party and moutya performance. The carnival parade will remain unchanged. A slight modification has been put on Family Fun Day. We’re anticipating a children’s carnival to inculcate the culture of Carnival in our young people.’’

“Seychelles as a whole rallied for the past editions of Carnaval International de Victoria. The Seychelles Tourism Board and the Ministry of Tourism and Culture have pledged to make this edition more colourful and relevant for Seychelles. My appeal is to everyone in Seychelles and to every Seychellois to come out for the three day of fun and support this 2014 edition and participate actively in the three day of manifestation” Minister St.Ange said on Pure FM.
