emergency-landingA faulty front landing gear forced an emergency landing of an Avianca Airlines passenger plane in Brasilia on Friday.

There were 49 passengers on board. No injuries reported.

The front landing gear failed to deploy during the landing and the plane landed on the rear wheels before lowering the nose onto the runway.

According to the Brazilian Air force, the airport crew foamed the plane to prevent the outbreak of fire.

The pilot of the plane took some time circling over the Brazil capital to burn the fuel and lower the weight of the aircraft before making the emergency landing.

Avianca Brazil, which has grown rapidly in the Brazilian market by opening regional routes, is owned by the Synergy Group controlled by Brazilian airline entrepreneur German Efromovich.

The emergency landing caused heavy delay to the other flights as well, as one of the two runways of the Brasilia airport was blocked for a long time.
