Traveling deterred as thunderstorm and rain swept Sydney on Wednesday

sydney-stormTravelers in Sydney had a tough time as a severe thunderstorm and a heavy downpour swept the eastern and southern suburbs of the busy Australian city.

Commuters ended up in long traffic jams on the roads and railway service faced major delays.

The peak hour of the city saw the travelers perplexed with no ways to reach home or work in time.

The flooding also resulted in a multi-vehicle accident in Kensington on Southern Cross Drive resulting in further traffic jams.

The Sydney travelers had to experience a minimum delay of 30 minutes in whatever commuting they chose on Wednesday.

Flights due to arrive at Sydney Airport between 4.20pm and 5.20pm were diverted to other Australian airports, including Canberra and Brisbane, while the thunderstorm passed over the area, an airport spokeswoman said.

All flights were back to normal at 6.30pm and each airline would organise to have passengers flown back to Sydney, the spokeswoman said.
