Thomas Pesquet , 36, will be the first French commercial pilot to go into space aboard the International Space Station (ISS).
Frédéric GAGEY, Chairman and CEO of Air France, congratulated him personally and said:
“Air France is extremely proud of Thomas Pesquet, the youngest member of the European Astronaut team and the first commercial pilot to join this very prestigious club. Thomas, who joined Air France via the Company’s cadet pilot programme and a copilot on the Airbus A320, will illustrate the excellence of his Air France pilot colleagues aboard the international Space Station.”
A graduate of the Ecole Nationale Supérieure de l’Aéronautique, in 2004 Thomas Pesquet was chosen to be part of the Air France cadet pilot training programme and became a commercial pilot on A320 until 2009. In accordance with the ESA, he continues to fly regularly for Air France to maintain his qualification on Airbus A320. In 2009, after being chosen by the European Space Agency (ESA) from among 8,413 candidates, in 2016 he will be the youngest European astronaut and the tenth French astronaut to go into space.
