Sainte-Marie welcomes this year`s fifth annual meeting SOREFI Cyclo Tour which will take place Sunday, May 4, 2014 on Reunion Island. These four races are on the program and will be sponsored for the occasion by cyclist Laurent Jalabert.The fifth edition of the SOREFI Meeting Cyclo Tour, organized by the Cycling Club of Saint-Denis (VCSD) in partnership with the Reunion Committee Bicycle Promotion (CRPV) is expecting 1,200 people at the start of the competition.
The program includes four races for four profiles of cyclists:
– Cyclosportive: 224 km race open to runners from 18
– Sports Touring: 85 km race open to runners from 15 years
– Trekking: 41 km race open to runners aged 12
– Family Hike: 9.5 km race open to all athletes from 8 years
This year, Laurent Jalabert is the sponsor of the SOREFI Meeting Cyclo Tour. A former professional cyclist, he was also the official commentator of the largest cycling event, the Tour de France as well as the Paris-Roubaix, Liege-Bastogne-Liege which aired on TV channel France Televisions group (RTL).
Through this competition, the organizers wish to promote cycling and sports in general, to the family. It is also to improve local infrastructure to move towards an eco-friendly and safe movement.
This cycling event, supported by Reunion Island Tourism (IRT), is a real opportunity to invite visitors to the Indian Ocean area, especially those from South Africa. South Africa hosts the biggest cycling meeting in the world, Cape Argus Cycle Tour, with 40,000 participants registered for the race each year.
