In March, ANA Holiday Inn Kanazawa Sky opened in the historic town of Kanazawa, which will be connected to Tokyo by bullet train from 2015.

 

Below we have information about Onomichi U2, Japan’s First Hotel Designed for Cyclist; nine hours, a capsule hotel opening at Narita Airport in July; and new stylish KAI ryokans that have opened near Nikko in the past month.

 

ONOMICHI U2 – JAPAN’S FIRST HOTEL DESIGNED FOR CYCLIST
Onomichu U2 – a hotel in Japan specially designed for cyclists. On 7 May 2014, Japan’s first hotel/leisure complex designed specially to meet to needs of cycling enthusiasts opened in Onomichi, Hiroshima Prefecture, at the Honshu terminus of the well-known Setouchi Shimanami Kaido Cycling Road.
 

Onomichi U2 features a complete range of services for cycling enthusiasts, centered around the Hotel Cycle, a hotel designed exclusively for cyclists and the first in Japan at which guests can actually check in while on their bicycles and store their bikes in their room. In addition, the Giant Store, featuring products by Giant Bicycles, provides support for safe and enjoyable cycling trips with rentals of authentic sports bikes as well as expert maintenance performed in store by A guest room at Onomichi U2 hotel. skilled staff members. The on-site Yard Cafe has a unique “cycle-through” system, where guests can purchase finger food and special drinks that can be consumed while riding. CAPSULE HOTEL TO OPEN AT NARITA AIRPORT
nine hours capsule hotel opening at Narita Airport in July 2014. On 20 July 2014, a new capsule hotel, “nine hours”, will open for overnight stays and day use at Narita Airport. The hotel is located on the first basement level of Car Park No. 2 (P2) complex with direct access to Terminal 2. The hotel will cater to every individual traveling style, from overnight accommodation for those taking off on early-morning flights to a brief rest and shower (or even just a shower alone).
 

As is standard for capsule hotels, men’s and women’s facilities are fully separated on either side of the reception area. The front desk is staffed 24 hours and a flight information board is provided in the hotel. The hotel has a total of 129 capsule rooms (71 for men, 58 for women) and 16 shower cubicles (7 for men, 9 for women). Day-use and shower-only options available.

 

Rates for an overnight stay cost from 3,900 yen or day use at 1,500 yen for the first hour and 500 yen per hour thereafter . A shower only is priced at 1,000 yen (up to 1 hour). Overnight and day-use customers can use the show free.
 

NEW STYLISH RYOKANS NEAR NIKKO
Two new KAI hot spring inns have recently opened in Nikko, Tochigi Prefecture. KAI Nikko, with wonderful views of Lake Chuzenji, opened on 8 May 2014, and KAI Kawaji, located by a mountain stream of the Kawaji Hot Spring, opened on 1 June 2014.

 
KAI Nikko offers a luxurious and stylish base to explore the areas sightseeing spots, such as the Nikko Toshogu Shrine and Kegon Waterfall. It features spacious Japanese-style tatami rooms and Japanese cypress bathrooms. All rooms have a view of Lake Chuzenji directly outside the room’s windows.
 

For dinner, KAI Nikko offers traditional Japanese kaiseki multi-course meals. All KAI properties have their menus focuses on local and seasonal specialities, so at KAI Nikko meals can include dishes such as yuba tofu skin, Ishimuro-yaki beef and dishes cooks on oya stones (rocks created from lava and ash), a style of cooking unique to Tochigi Prefecture within Japan. Locally brewed sake is, of course, another specialty.
