As 2014 approaches its last quarter, it gives way to the European Tour’s visit to the United Arab Emirates. All 3 of these major events held in the Golf renowned cities of Dubai and Abu Dhabi, form UAE’s very own version of the Desert Swing. Beginning with the ‘Race to Dubai’ event,
The DP championship, held in the later part of November. This is the season ending tournament of the year European Tour. The other two major Championships, starting season of 2015 are the Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship in mid-January held at the Abu Dhabi Golf Club and finally the Dubai Desert Classic which is the most aged- celebrating its 26th anniversary, is played on the prestigious Emirates Golf Club with its final round played on February 1st.
A combined purse of over $10 million promises convergence of the top ranked players. The players compete for important cuts in the starting events of the season, which guarantees appearance in the later tournaments of the year. The first visit of the European tour in 1989 to UAE was at the Emirates Golf Club, also called the Desert miracle, as the course was one of its kind. Golf in the region has never looked back ever since and continues to gain popularity. The ‘Desert Swing’ tournaments feature the best of Golf in the world not to be missed boasting luscious green courses in the desert landscape.
