India to relaunch tourism in new avatar on Dec. 25

Tuesday informed Indian tourism will be relaunched with a new face on Good Governance Day.

The Government has decided to celebrate the birthday of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Madan Mohan Malviya as ‘Good Governance Day’ on December 25.

Sharma said, “We are working on certain procedures…we propose that on Good Governance Day, the tourism ministry will come forward with some new measures. Out total flow of international tourists is around 70 lakh which is low compared to many other countries.”

The Ministry of Tourism has identified three areas where it wants to focus to boost tourism in the country: cleanliness, hospitality and safety.

India’s share of international tourist arrivals was 0.64 per cent and it ranked 42nd in world tourist arrivals and 16th in world tourism receipts, according to Government data for 2013.

The Ministry of Tourism has also put forward a proposal with the Railway Ministry to add a tourist coach in trains to in most-visited destinations for domestic tourists.

“We will have complete information of any passenger who books a ticket for this coach. The
ticket for this particular coah may be 5-10 per cent costlier than the regular coach fare. We are also looking at the possibility of a surveillance camera in the tourist coach,” Sharma added.
