Tourists light Paper lanterns in Thailand in memory of the tsunami victims

Tourists light Paper lanternsIt was a poignant moment for the for residents and visitors in Thailand who lighted paper lanterns in memory of the 2004 tsunami victims from the fishing village who died and their village was completely destroyed in the shocking waves.

 

Tourists joined locals in remembering the 1,400 people who were slammed to the Thailand coast a decade ago.

 

More than five thousand people were killed in the mishap out of which half of them were tourist who were there for their Christmas holidays and were enjoying their day in the white sand beaches after Christmas.

 

The tsunami that struck in 2004 had affected a dozen countries around the Indian Ocean, killing 230,000 people. It is said to be the worst natural disaster of modern history.

 

The commemoration was observes in all countries that suffered the tsunami namely Thailand, Sri Lanka, India along with Indonesia.
