Kakadu National ParkUbirr lookout in Kakadu National Park has been rated as Australia’s top natural attraction on the world’s largest online travel review site.

TripAdvisor has named its Top 10 Travellers’ Choice Landmarks for Australia with Ubirr rated the number one natural attraction and 10th overall on a list topped by man-made landmarks the Sydney Opera House and the Australian War Memorial.

Chief Minister Adam Giles said it was more recognition of how positively the Northern Territory was viewed by visitors from right across the globe.

“Kakadu is Australia’s largest national park home to ancient land with Aboriginal rock art, spectacular landscapes, waterfalls and exotic wildlife,” he said.

“Ubirr lookout’s rating as Australia’s top natural attraction on TripAdvisor follows the recent news that many Northern Territory tourist attractions received 2015 Certificates of Excellence for consistently achieving outstanding traveller reviews.

“This is exceptional feedback for some of our most popular attractions and demonstrates that a holiday in the Territory offers a world class experience.”

Mr Giles said the Ubirr lookout rating was timely given the recent TODAY Show broadcast, which saw the Kakadu region beamed into the lounge rooms of 300,000 Australians, and Tourism NT’s ‘There’s So Much to Kakadu’ campaign.

The campaign has a dedicated microsite kakadu.travelnt.com, which shows videos, regional maps, itineraries and activities you can do in Kakadu and the Top End.

Mr Giles said the Territory Government had increased Tourism NT’s overall budget for 2015-16 to $50.4 million to help market the Northern Territory and its attractions.

“A thriving tourism industry will help to develop our regions, boost local businesses, create more jobs and grow the Territory economy,” he said.

“The Territory offers some of the best places and experiences in Australia and we encourage would be visitors to Do the NT.”
